Censure of Governor Mark Gordon

WHEREAS, residential property taxes have increased exorbitantly over the past 3 years.

WHEREAS, property tax relief is the #1 issue with Wyoming citizens due the burden and hardship it has placed on every day residents and families; and

WHEREAS, the citizens and home owners of Wyoming have strongly beseeched the Wyoming Legislature and the Governor’s office to provide for property tax relief; and

WHEREAS, the Wyoming Legislature passed Senate File 54 a bill that would have exempted 25% of assessed value up to $2 million of a home’s value; and

WHEREAS, Governor Mark Gordon vetoed Senate File 54 on Thursday March 22, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Governor Mark Gordon added insult to injury by claiming that efforts at property tax relief were “ a socialistic type of wealth transfer”, a “Bidenomic-type of tax relief” and mere “electioneering exuberance”; and

WHEREAS, at the same time Governor Mark Gordon approved a 30 plus % increase in the State Budget for a total of $10.6 billion; and

WHEREAS, Governor Mark Gordon vetoed HB 125 to repeal gun free zones using a rationale that is in violation of Wyoming’s pre-emption statute; and

WHEREAS, Governor Mark Gordon falsely uses and weaponizes conservative language against his own citizens while behaving, spending and delivering outcomes like a liberal.

BE IT RESOLVED, The Wyoming Republican Party hereby:

• Censures Governor Mark Gordon in the strongest possible terms for his lack of performance, his behavior and his treatment of Wyoming citizens.

• Encourages other Wyoming counties to enact similar censure.
