WHEREAS, in 2018 the Wyoming state legislature overwhelmingly passed the Stand Your Ground bill, HB 168, which became law without Governor Mead’s signature; and
WHEREAS, the intent of the legislation was to provide legal self-defense protections for ourselves, our property and innocents in harm’s way; and
WHEREAS, the intent of the legislation was to remove one’s “duty to retreat” from the arguments surrounding self-defense; and
WHEREAS, Wyoming law enforcement and the judicial branch have been occasionally reluctant to respect the will of the legislature to give Wyomingites the right to stand their ground; now therefore be it
BE IT RESOLVED that the Wyoming Republican Party calls on county law enforcement, county attorneys, and judges in Lincoln County to vigorously support Wyoming’s Stand Your Ground law.
