Resolution in Support of the Republican Candidate for the Wyoming

Office of Secretary of State, Chuck Gray and Condemnation of the Legislative Committee’s Effort to Create an Elections Committee




WHEREAS, the office of Secretary of State is a constitutionally mandated office and statutorily authorized to carry out duties and responsibilities; and


WHEREAS, the Joint Corporations, Elections, and Political Subdivisions Committee conducted a meeting on August 25, 2022; and


WHEREAS, the Committee considered a motion to craft legislation to remove the Elections duties from the Secretary of State and create an Elections Commission; and


WHEREAS, the Co-Chairman of that Committee, Representative Dan Zwonitzer HD-43, specifically spoke to the concerns of the most likely upcoming Secretary of State; and


WHEREAS, Representative Zwonitzer is preemptively seeking to remove the Secretary of State’s Elections duties over personal concern and in direct contradiction to the will of the People; and


WHEREAS, the motion to have the Legislative Services Office draft legislation for the October 2022 Committee meeting passed 7-3; and


WHEREAS, a member of said Committee, Senator Scott SD-30, warned the Committee members they should have learned from previous legislative efforts (SF104); therefore


BE IT RESOLVED, the Wyoming Republican Party condemns the recent effort of the Joint Corporations, Elections, and Political Subdivisions Committee to remove the Elections duties of the Secretary of State by creating an appointed Elections Commission and supports the retention of the powers and duties enumerated and assigned to the Wyoming elected officials as currently codified in Statute.
