Opposing Civil Asset Forfeiture

WHEREAS, the Wyoming Republican Party supports private property rights; and

WHEREAS, law enforcement has the ability to take a citizen’s money or property

that is suspected to have been involved in a crime before the citizen is charged with the crime;

BE IT RESOLVED, law enforcement shall return the confiscated money or property to the citizen immediately if the citizen is not charged with the crime, so that the citizen does not need to sue for return of the confiscated property; and

BE IT RESOLVED, law enforcement shall not confiscate a citizen’s money or

property unless said money or property is directly involved in the alleged crime.
