“BEEF” “MEAT” and “MCOOL”



WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Inspection

Services (FSIS) does not have specific labeling;


WHEREAS, the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Inspection

Services (FSIS) does not have specific Mandatory Country of Origin labeling

(MCOOL); and


WHEREAS, consumers widely do not understand “beef” to be the harvested tissue or flesh from only a bovine animal and “meat” to be the harvested tissue or flesh from non specific animal species; and


WHEREAS, consumers widely do not understand that animal products NOT labeled with mandatory country of origin labeling (MCOOL) are not necessarily grown or processed in the United States; and


WHEREAS, consumers will more widely purchase higher quality and more healthily grown animal meats and products that are labeled produced and processed in the United States;


WHEREAS, food products made from plants, insects or artificially grown food

products in the laboratory should not be labeled “meat” or “beef”; and


BE IT RESOLVED, the Wyoming Republican Party desires that all food products

labeled “beef” shall be limited solely to products of their species that have been

born, raised, and harvested in the traditional manner; and


BE IT RESOLVED, that food products labeled solely as to animal product of their

species, derived from the tissue or flesh harvested in the traditional manner; shall be labeled as to the country of origin; and


BE IT RESOLVED, the Wyoming Republican Party requests that the USDA, FSIS

conform with the petition of the United States Cattlemen’s Association petition

submitted on February 9, 2018 to adopt labeling rules to protect the terms “beef” and “meat” by excluding man-made, or artificially manufactured products that are not from animals born, raised, and harvested in the traditional manner.
