Uncle Sam Day!

Uncle Sam is another name for America that may have originated with a patriotic meat packer, Sam Wilson. He provided meat for troops during the War of 1812 and stamped the initial U.S. on barrels. After Sam’s death, his legacy and America’s nickname continued to be used in a variety of campaigns for the American people – especially during the recruitment period of World War I. Images of Uncle Sam as portrayed in the original recruitment poster continue to prevail as a symbol for our great nation!
